Jalgaon is the fast developing, economical industrial and educational hub in the Khandesh region of North Maharashtra. In this region Muslim minority population constitutes significant portion among the total population. They comprise approximately 20% of Jalgaon district’s entire population. The Muslim population of this region is economically and educationally much behind as compared to the other minority groups and communities.
According to Dr. Abdul Karim Salar, (President, Iqra Education Society) “ If Muslim community has to develop they should be educated”. To implant this thought and to uplift the Muslims community in every sphere of life, Dr. Abdul Karim Salar with their like-minded friends founded Iqra Education Society in 1986.
The aim of Iqra Education Society is to bring the youths particularly of minority to the main stream of education. Today, Iqra, after three decades, is a well grown, strong and sturdy tree, under its shade, many seeks educational and economical shelter.
The working and ideals of the Society have been so exemplary that on 5th September 2001, Iqra Education Society was awarded as ‘Ideal Education Society’ among minority institutions with “Gaurav Seva Puraskar”, by the State Government of Maharashtra.
